First impressions: The Stedelijk Museum art collection in augmented reality.
During the Lowlands music festival in the Netherlands, in August 2010 the Stedelijk Museum lent digital versions from their world famous art collection to visitors with an Android- or iPhone. Hein Wils, project leader ARtours at Stedelijk Museum, calls it “Borrowing real art in augmented reality”. At a special desk visitors of the festival will be able to choose one of the 175 famous art works by artists like Picasso, Karel Appel, Andy Warhol and Gilbert & George.
Using their Layar augmented reality browser, visitors will be able to place their art piece anywhere on the festival terrain. Other visitors will be able to view the art pieces from their new temporary owner through the Layar browser on their smartphones.
